Biography

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Christy started violin lessons with Maria Kelemen in 1984.

Her love for violin grew through the nurturing hand of Marina Louw, and she completed a Bachelor's degree of Music with specialization in violin solo performance at the University of Cape Town in 2000. There she studied with Professor Jurgen Schwietering (himself a former student of Peter Guth and Dorothy Delay) and received various awards including the Imusicanti Chamber Orchestra award and annual mention on the University of Cape Town Dean's Merit List, before graduating with Distinction.

After attending masterclasses with Professor José-Luis Garcia of the Reina Sofia School in Madrid, Christy furthered her studies in Gent under Professor Michael Kugel. Awarded the Harry Crossley Foundation Scholarship, as well the International Skye Foundation Scholarship, she obtained a Masters Dipoma with distinction in violin, and completed an extra year of studies on viola.

Christy has given numerous solo performances and recitals in Cape Town, Swellendam, Oudtshoorn Klein Kunstefees, Pretoria, Gent, Brugge, Geel and Leuven, as well as chamber music performances at the Kleipeda International Chamber Music Festival in Lithuania. Her String Quartet, Quartetto Brioso, won second place in the Internationale Strijkkwartet competitie voor de promotie van Vlaamse Muziek in 2003.

Christy teaches violin at the Jan Niklaas Stichting in Dworp, the Jeugd Muziek Atelier in Tildonk, as well as private tuition. She is a member of the Ganda Ensemble and currently resides in Leuven, Belgium, with her husband, daughter and son.
